Hakone Puzzle Box and Japanese Puzzle Box are the same thing.
Japanese puzzle boxes are made in the Hakone region, which is why they are also called that.
Hakone is rich in nature, with a variety of trees growing wild, providing an abundance of diverse woods from which to make the boxes.
Approximately 400 to 300 years ago, Japanese puzzle boxes began to be made.
The tradition continues today.
